Mercy & Justice: Gospel Motivated Love

A six week series exploring how the Bible commands and the gospel motivates us to show mercy to and seek justice for the poor and marginalized in our families, our church and our city.

After all this talk of mercy and justice, where do we go from here? What is God ultimately after? In this passage we’ll see that God is less after your good works or your resume and more after you. When you give yourself to him, he uses you to accomplish what he loves: mercy and justice.

Resources:

Deuteronomy 10:12-22

Ministries of Mercy: The Call of the Jericho Road, Timothy Keller

Now that we’ve talked about the need for mercy and justice and how the gospel motivates it, what do we do? What does it look like? In this sermon, we look at a picture of what it looks like from the earliest church, who when filled with the Spirit lived out mercy & justice. We also consider what that will mean for us at Citylight today.

Resources:

Acts 4:32-37, 6:1-7

Ministries of Mercy: The Call of the Jericho Road, Timothy Keller

As we kick off our new series, we’ll be looking at Jesus’ teaching on the basics of what it means to love our neighbor. Central to is identified needs and meeting them through sacrificial deeds, though this proceeds from a compassion only possible for us because Jesus first saw our need and met it through the ultimate sacrifice.
