Counseling

Restorative care through the body of Christ to the glory of God.

Restorative care...

Citylight exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ to the glory of God. By his grace God has given us a number of ways to accomplish this task. These have commonly been called the normal means of grace. These include: God’s word (both preached and read), baptism and communion, as well as prayer and fellowship with other believers. This does not mean there are not other means God uses, but it does mean that these are the most common means. When special circumstances require care beyond the normal means of grace, God graciously provides this care through the body of Christ. Biblical counseling is one of the ways that he does this.

The aim of biblical counseling is not to fix what is broken in us, but to point to Christ, the only one who can fix us. For this reason our aim, or goal if you like, is to provide restorative care to the normal means of grace and care for God’s people

The Counseling Ministry seeks to help people know, love, and depend on Jesus as God continues this work of restoration in their lives. Toward that goal, we typically offer counselling that covers, but is not limited to, the following concerns:

  • Premarital
  • Marital
  • Family
  • Anxiety / Worry
  • Anger
  • Depression
  • Grief / Mourning
  • Addiction
  • Life Direction
  • Sexuality
  • Illness and Pain
  • Loneliness

...through the body of Christ...

Citylight currently provides counseling in a couple ways. First, through our resident counselor, a Citylight member who is a trained therapist and is committed to care for people in our church family. We also have a significant referral network for when presenting issues or circumstances prevent adequate counseling from being offered through the local church.

Our resident counselor will provide a referral or recommendation for ongoing care (if needed). Citylight’s resident counselor provides counseling at a reduced rate for members and attendees and Citylight also has scholarships available to help make ongoing counseling more affordable for attendees and members.

...to the glory of God.

The demonstration of God’s grace is for the good of his people and the glory of his name (Eph 1:6,12,14). Therefore, the counseling ministry desires to help people increasingly love God and others as they live to make much of Jesus in day to day life.
